A Competency Based Curriculum
A Competency Based Curriculum is a new approach for KS3 that enhances flexibility, engagement and independent learning.
Opening Minds is the RSA competency-based and innovative curriculum approach, endeavouring to provide an educational experience that will help equip students for a demanding future in the 21st Century. In an era of rapid change, young people need to become flexible, independent learners with resilience and empathy and teachers need to create a curriculum which develops these skills and attributes.
Competences for learning include skills:
* for learning
* for citizenship
* for relating to people
* for managing situations
* for managing information
The aim of a competency based curriculum is to create transferable skills in literacy and ICT, independence in learning and teamwork skills through projects. At many schools this approach has been a huge success with teachers, students and parents.
